Cleaning and maintaining your windows

Maintaining your windows

Maintaining your windows is one of the most important things that a mobile home owner can do. Even here in the Tampa, FL area – weather shifts enough season to season where there will be things that you’re going to need to do in order to make sure that your windows stand the physical stress tests from the weather. Keeping them clean and functioning properly is the key to getting the most value from them.

Poorly sealed and maintained windows can lead to higher energy costs, mold growth and costly repairs so today, we’ll give you some tips that’ll help you avoid those issues. Let’s jump right in!

Cleaning the frame

All you need here is a sponge, clean towels and low-grade leaning solution like a few drops of dish soap and water. Use a non-abrasive towel and lightly run the cloth over the smudges and dirt on the frame. Once you’ve removed the gunk. Dry the frame off with a paper towel. Be sure however – that you avoid using abrasive soaps or any kind of cleaning solution that is acidic. These substances can cost permanent damage not only to the appearance of your frame, but to its functionality as well.

Cleaning glass

Cleaning the glass will help ensure that your windows maintain their clarity throughout their lifespan. Cleaning them is a similar process to cleaning the frame. You’ll want to use mild dish soap and water again – however the major difference here is you’ll want to avoid using a paper towel. Using paper towels will leave behind streaks, smudges and stains and when used in consort with the wrong cleaning solutions – can leave permanent smudges. Instead – simply use clean water to rub out the soapy water and then use a non-abrasive towel/soft cloth and let it dry.

Always inspect your window

Now that your windows are clean, it’ll be time to inspect them. Look to make sure there’s no wear and tear like caulking issues or weatherstripping problems. Do you feel any drafts or air leaks in spite of sound sealing? Did you notice condensation before? Are there any cracks? Be sure to be thorough and look through any issues that might exist. If you’re seeing multiple issues, it’ll be time to call a pro – #1 for the maintenance – but also #2 – because it might be time for a replacement or upgrade.
