Anytime you want to renovate a mobile home, you’ll have to go out and do some planning. But when you’re on a budget – it’ll just take a little bit of extra creativity on your part. Remodeling your home will give your home a great, new look but remember- it doesn’t have to cost you an arm and a leg.
Today, we’re going to share some tips with you on how to remodel your mobile home on a budget. Let’s jump right in!
Plan out your budget
Before you renovate a mobile home – it’s best to sit down and build out a real plan. How far will your money go? Do you need to hire people to do big jobs like electrical or plumbing? You can save on labor costs by doing a few things yourself – but always remember – if you don’t have the time to do it right, when will you have the time to do it over?
The good news is that if your remodel is fairly basic – you’ll have some money to spend on cosmetics, decorations, fixtures and trim. And as always – set aside some funds for any unexpected overages.
Shop second hand
One of the biggest mistakes people make with mobile home renovations is that they go out and buy all new stuff when there’s plenty of great second-hand stuff out there that costs a 1/10 of the cost up front. And when we say stuff – we mean cabinets, paint, brick – all sorts of things. Habitat for Humanity even have stores where they sell surplus materials from jobs they’ve done in the past so if you’re looking to identify some cheap materials and upgrades – that’s a great place to start.
Go big first
One of the best things you can do for your project is to start with the BIG stuff – the essential nuts and bolts that’ll be required to get the project done the right way. Then – add in the little stuff in the order of desirability. That way the things that need to happen are prioritized – as you can always add the other, little stuff at another time.
Stay organized
One of the most common ways that costs spiral out of control is when folks buy too much stuff and don’t keep track of what they bought for a particular space. Be sure you write down what you have and what you need and stick to it. Don’t get stuck with a bunch of junk you don’t need and can’t fit.
Hopefully these tips help make your next renovation a little bit easier to plan – as well as a little bit more affordable. And in the meantime, if you need guidance – we’re always a call away. Until then, good luck!
