As summer dissipates into fall, it’s usually a great time to start thinking about maintaining your mobile home. While we like to take some time off in the Summer, fall means getting back to work and finally getting to some of those ‘to do’ list items we’ve been putting off.
Today, we’re going to share some fall maintenance tips and some things you’ll want to do in and around your mobile home this season. Let’s jump right in.
Inspecting for pests
Whether you’re in more seasonal climates up north or hotter, more humid conditions like we are in down here in Florida, you’ll always be dealing with pests of some sort – both indoor and outdoor and let us tell you – they can wreak havoc on a mobile home.
Fall is a great time to make sure the exterior of your home is free from debris and make sure the skirting of your home is in good, working order as that’s how pests get in to begin with. Upgrading your skirting is also a good idea if for nothing more than trimming AC and heating bills and preventing the build-up of mold and mildew – but also keeping the baddies out of your house is a big benefit.
A little stripping, steel wool or other deterrents can go a long way.
Tidy up the yard.
We definitely recommend that as you head into the fall you do a full-scale cleanup – whether you’re preparing for snow or not. Even down here in Florida, you’re on the heels of Hurricane season and up north, you’re getting ready for colder temperatures. Make sure debris is picked up, make sure your gutters are cleaned, and above all else – do a walkthrough of the exterior of your home. Check your roof for leaks, check decks for any insecurities and the like.
Consider your insulation
One of the best ways to save money as a homeowner is to make sure your insulation is in good working order. Whether you’re trying to keep cold or hot hair inside your home, insulation is going to do the lion’s share of the work. Check for drafts, inspect weather stripping and also tighten up hinges on doors and look for cracks in windows. All of this will add up to a far more energy-efficient home.
